What is the role?
As an Operations Assistant you will assist the Plant Management Team and Corporate staff, in the safe, compliant, legal, regulatory and environmental aspects for waste reception and processing, residues management and handling, including mobile plant operations, deputizing for weighbridge operator as required and assisting the Operations and Maintenance teams in day to day tasks, so that the facility can function as an integrated whole and run at maximum levels of safety, compliance, availability and efficiency. The role is worked on a rotating two shift pattern that includes day-work, with late and early starts, weekends and public/bank holidays, and provides shift-rota cover, including stand-by cover as required, to assist with the continuous 24/7 operation of the facility.
What you will be doing?

- Maintain a clear tipping floor area, ensuring any obstacles are removed or waste that is unacceptable is segregated for subsequent disposal, and that traffic flows smoothly.
- Operation of the waste and ash cranes to manage inputs and maintain an effective bunker profile
- Safely and effectively operating heavy equipment during daily operations.
- Performing routine maintenance checks on mobile equipment and reports malfunctions
- Ensures a high level of health and safety is always maintained by reporting any issues or incorrect procedures to the Supervisor, Shift Team Leader or Management team.
- Close liaison with other operational and maintenance colleagues responsible for other elements of the site, so the facility can function as an integrated whole, and run at maximum levels of safety, availability and efficiency.
- Ensures that all procedures and risk assessments are always adhered to.
- Ensures that the correct PPE/RPE is always worn as identified in the Risk Assessment/Method Statement applicable to the activity being performed.
- Provide a strong, professional customer focus whilst dealing with all inputs/outputs to site.
- Undertake further training to gain new skills, either on or off site as required.
Desirable but not essential qualifications and experience
- Educated to GCSE level (Maths and English), NVQ equivalent, or more than 5 years of relevant industry experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
- Understanding of waste regulations, duty of care, transfer notes etc.
- Mobile plant experience and licences for Front Loading Shovel, Fork Lift Truck, mechanical access equipment.
- IT literate and competent to operate computer software systems.
- Current, valid UK driving licence.
- Recognised Safety training – IOSH.
